Author: Droopy Sevens

Germany is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Rich history, exciting urban life, ski resorts and captivating mountain views – Germany has something for everyone. Each of the states of Germany (called "bundesländer") offers different tourist destinations and attractions. Having that in mind, you can prepare a holiday in Germany by your own interests and likings.

Planning your holiday in Germany should start by choosing which regions you'll like to visit. This decision is usually made according to the kind of vacation you want to spend. North regions are popular for their sea resorts. If you like the idea of lying on the white sand beaches of North and Baltic Sea this is where you should go. If you like to feel the urban and night life of one of Europe's most famous capitals you should visit Berlin. The city offers not just a wide variety of night clubs and bars. Berlin has rich history from Renaissance to the famous Berlin Wall, which divided the West from the East during the Cold War. Berlin is also a good destination to any tourist having interest in architecture. Germany is also known for its rich medieval history. Visiting the ancient Bavarian and Teutonic castles is one of the best tours a fan of medieval European history can make. Another great idea is to participate one of Germany trademark events – the Oktoberfest. The fest is held in Munich, Bavaria and don't get fooled by the name the fest starts from September and lasts to the first Sunday of October. If you like visiting history landmarks, you should check the city of Trier. It is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate state in the south-west part of Germany. Trier is the oldest city of Germany and its Roman Empire ruins date as far back as 16 BCE. Another typical tour is visiting the birth places of famous classical authors and composers – such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and many others. Other historical tours offer you a glimpse at Germany's dark past – WWII concentration camps (Auschwitz, Dachau) or Nazi-related exhibits at museums.

Another great way to spend your holiday in Germany is by going on a hike. Germany is full of unexploited, wild forests. Hiking is very popular in this part of Europe and many travel agencies offer a wide variety of hiking tours. One of the best known is hiking in Black Forest. The mountain of Black Forest (or Schwarzwald) is full of many lakes, valleys and acres of alpine forest to explore. German hiking trails have very good signposts. In the beginning of each hiking route there is a board describing the markings you should follow, the difficulty of the trail and also what wildlife and flora you could encounter.

If your holiday in Germany is during the winter you can visit the Alp skiing resorts. The ski resorts of Germany are famous worldwide. Aside for skiing down the slopes you can also get winter tan.
