Germany, an attractive place to do business with

Germany is officially an important European transport hub, one which has international links to almost everywhere and this not only makes it an attractive place to do business with but also an attractive place to live. As such, it is not good enough for international courier companies to rest on their laurels and expect business just to come to them, when the industry is extremely competitive and when demand for such services is so high.

Those who need to send a parcel to Germany expect to have a choice when it comes to the type of service on offer, if they don't mind when the parcel gets there, then they will likely want access to a cheaper option which takes this into account, the same is true the other way round when people are happy to pay for express worldwide delivery. Those courier companies who are up to speed with the world of global business will understand that Germany is an attractive place for other European and global countries to do business with and as such can draw a crowd as it were.

Each courier to Germany has a chance to make themselves the courier of choice for business and individual customers alike and they can only do this if they are able to offer a choice of services, whether this is discounts on multiple items, free additional services such as postcode finders and parcel volume calculators or simply the choice of express parcel delivery or economy options. Germany parcel delivery companies must realize that they are competing not only with each other but also with technology, with email and video calling and as such, they must exploit their niche in the market and ensure that they remind businesses just how important it is to be able to send samples, important business documents and so on, both to their stakeholders and global offices and to their customers.

Bearing all this in mind, shipping to Germany needs to compete with technology in terms of relative speed, customer care, price and overall service and this is a tall order, especially as Germany is so up on business and what is and isn't a good deal. The German people are famously efficient and they will not take inefficient service lying down, so if worldwide courier companies are going to make themselves attractive to do business with then they will need to be at the top of their game at all times. Send a parcel to Germany the easy way, by booking your choice of worldwide courier online and booking a parcel collection from your home or work address.

Studying in Germany

More and more Nepalese are coming to Germany for studies these days. Although English speaking nations like the United States and the United Kingdom are top destination as yet, Germany is picking up rapidly. German institutions are renowned in the world for their state of the art educational facilities and academic excellence. And a handful of Nepalese have already made their way to being recognized as top-class students in Germany.

Getting access to Germany is not that difficult for talented individuals and because the universities are run on state fund, there is a fair chance of free education here. Hence Nepalese students should try their luck for a free education and high standard of living in Germany rather than pushing desperately hard for a place in the United States or other attractive destinations. Many people may not realize that German institutions also offer courses based on English language but there are plenty of such courses in German universities. However, learning German language will yield further benefits.

At present there are thousands of Nepalese students all over Germany. The difference between these students and the majority of the students in the US, UK or Australia is that those who have landed in Germany have the opportunity to concentrate their time and energy fully on their study and research. While others may have to struggle to manage work and study together, those in Germany have fewer things to worry about. Nepalese students here are doing very well in here and many of them have experience of a better society than they had perceived of the Germans while in Nepal.

It is obvious for people to remember the history of Germany before they make their mind to come here. But the truth is history has changed upside down in Germany. Today this is a land, which provides equal opportunity for all. So there is lot in the offing for the Nepalese students here. In this article, I am explaining how the Germans have left behind their forgetful past and why it is perfectly sensible for international students to grab the opportunity to come here and learn the German way of life and education.

History is an identity and normally the history of a nation glorifies itself around the world. But when it comes to Germany, the modern history of the country corresponding to the early twentieth century, paints a gloomy picture. The Hitler era and the Nazi atrocities caused millions to suffer at that time. Today time has passed and the wounds have been healed but still when anything related to German comes in people’s mind, the first thing they remember is Hitler’s mischief. However, the Germans have left behind the scars of their past and developed themselves as friendly, peace loving and hard-working people.

So it’s unfair to judge them on the basis of the notoriety their grandfathers and great grandfathers did during the beginning of modern history. Most Germans I meet are not bad, they are very nice people. Today’s generation has it up to the back teeth with this constant blame and the more a country is unjustly made to feel bad for, well, being that country, the more right-wing minority proof are given fodder to feed uneducated, disadvantaged youths looking for someone to blame. Any person who believes that the German society is racist should look at the way many parents react when their daughter or son has a black partner.

In majority of these cases, there is a general level of acceptance. But some will refuse to regard their child as a member of their family and people highlight these exceptions and make a loud noise. As usual in such matters, one should be careful not to generalize. Most Germans are extremely open-minded. Certainly there is some degree of racism in any country, but I still have to say that Germany gives a particularly good picture, especially compared to other European countries.

Germany sure has a much more difficult way to go than other nations concerning these problems because as soon as something is happening somewhere, as soon as one fool acist attacks a black person, the image of all of Germany has to suffer a lot more of this terrible accident than it would be the case in any other country. I know that this comes still from their bad image they got during the 2nd world war, but people should be aware that lots of water has flowed through the Rhine since then and Germans have transformed themselves.

People say Germans are sweeping the holocaust under the rug but there is not much substance in their rhetoric. Neo Nazis are very much in the minority in Germany, and the German government has taken some pretty bold strides to limit their movement. Many German corporations that did not even exist during the Holocaust have contributed vast amounts of money to various reparation funds. The German government has been extremely proactive in returning stolen valuables and art work to their rightful heirs. The site of Dachau serves as a museum and a sombre reminder of the atrocities committed by the Nazis.

There is no doubt the Holocaust was a terrible thing and the consequences still have significance in the lives of the children of the suffered Jewish people. It is a sombre reminder of the nature of humanity and the cruelty we are capable of and also a warning that may happen again somewhere, either in Germany of outside. But my point is that we should not lay a blanket of guilt over the entire German populace for something that had many dynamics driving it.

I think the German people are well aware and have taken full responsibility for the actions of the Nazis. Let there be no mistake that sixty years ago, a majority of the German people did not agree with the ideology of the Nazis, and most Germans were not aware of the crimes being committed on their own soil. As for the death camps, very few Germans were actually involved in the genocide and murder we now call the Holocaust.

Given that sixty years have passed, and the responsible parties for the Holocaust have faced their crimes, I think the response from the German government has been one of compassion, understanding, and remorse for a piece of history it can never eliminate. German society doesn’t encompass more racism today than any of its European counterpart and for that matter of the rest of the world.

Therefore, start looking for study opportunities in Germany. Don’t bother about Hitler and the past and make serious efforts to grab a slice of chance in this land of Einstein and Max Plank. Germany offers a lot for deserving students of everywhere, fairly and equally.

An Investors Guide to Germany

At the heart of the EU, Germany is a federal republic comprising 16 'Bundeslander' (states). Re-united in 1990 after 45 years of separation into the Soviet controlled East Germany and West Germany, the country has borders with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.

It also has a North Sea coastline to the north west, and Baltic Sea coastlines to the north east.

To the south are the Bavarian Alps. Almost a third of the country comprises forest and woodland.

Germany is a major industrial nation with major interests in car manufacturing and engineering as well as in service industries such as banking and insurance. It is the world's largest exporter and the second largest importer. It is also the UK's second largest export market, after the US.

The Foreign Office reports that more than a decade after reunification, there are still differences in living standards between the eastern and western Bundeslander with unemployment still a key issue in the east.

However, there are signs the country's long period of economic stagnation is now at an end with healthy economic growth predicted over the next few years.

According to the Foreign Office there is a general threat from terrorism in Germany. 'Such attacks could be indiscriminate, including in public places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers'. However, 'most visits to Germany are trouble free', it said.

UK citizens do not require a visa to enter Germany. However, those intending to stay three months or longer must register with the German authorities (Einwohnermeldeamt) within seven days of arrival.

Those staying in Germany for a short visit are not normally required to register. Hotels are legally obliged to register guests and this information is passed automatically to Einwohnermeldeamt. There is no longer a requirement for EU Citizens to apply for a residence permit.

German people have a long tradition of renting their homes while the tax system mitigates against property speculation and buying costs are relatively high - around 6 to 8 per cent of the purchase price plus an agent's commission of approximately 6 per cent plus VAT. The upshot is that the property market is relatively slow meaning that investing in Germany should be for longer term capital growth.

In the interim, investors looking for rental returns can benefit by German property prices not having moved ahead at the same pace as EU partners and by strong rental demand from long term tenants. (Rental yields are said to be as high as 10 per cent in major cities although this is often in poorer areas where property values are expecting to fall - more realistic expectations in better areas would be between 4 and 6 per cent.

With many Germans moving from the poorer east to the more affluent west, there is a housing surplus in the east - much is in a poor state and earmarked for demolition or renovation. Germany also plans a major home building programme over the next few years, so shortages are unlikely.

When buying there is usually no pre-completion contract. The terms and conditions of the final contract - which must be signed before a notary (who acts for both sides) are for agreement between the parties. Buyers need to employ their own lawyer, should have contracts translated if necessary, and are recommended also to employ a tax accountant.

They must also satisfy themselves on the condition of the property they are buying. Mortgage financing is available, for up to 70 per cent of the purchase price. Long term fixed rate terms at relatively low rates of interest are on offer.
